The dragon's den
In a den above the deepest tunnels lies a dragon, and far at the back, something golden. Going near the dragon gets Dizzy shot at, and its fire kills at once.

Grand Dizzy has a golden egg he found in these very mines, and he'd give it for some medicine. But a dragon who's seen you take an egg deep into its den only wants it back.

Climb up into the den through the blasted wall with Grand Dizzy's warm golden dragon egg in hand: the dragon doesn't fire at someone carrying an egg. Walk right to the back, pick up the solid gold Irish shamrock, and drop the egg there before you turn round: from then on the dragon is roused and fires only while Dizzy holds an egg (there's a second one in the den: leave it too).
Why it works
The dragon stays asleep until Dizzy goes far in; until then it fires at him only if he has no egg. Once he's gone past the middle of the den it's awake for good, and from then on it fires when he does hold one.
